GENERAL FUNCTION

The Physical Therapist, Clinical Staff provides evidence-based physical therapy services for members of the university community within the Missouri State University Physical Therapy Clinic and across the Missouri State University campus community. Functional responsibilities include the examination, evaluation, diagnosis, prognosis, and treatment of movement-related impairments and functional limitations using current physical therapy knowledge and clinical techniques to promote optimal health, wellness, and physical function. The Physical Therapist, Clinical Staff functions with professional independence within a broad framework of established clinical policies, standards of practice, and institutional objectives.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: Doctor of Physical Therapy (DPT) degree from a program accredited by the Commission on Accreditation in Physical Therapy Education (CAPTE) is required.

Experience: Clinical experience working in an outpatient physical therapy practice is required.

Skills: Strong clinical decision-making skills and knowledge of evidence-based physical therapy practices are required. Excellent interpersonal, communication, and patient education skills are required.

Certification: Current certification in Basic Life Support (BLS) for healthcare providers is required. Additional specialty certifications or advanced credentials (e.g., Orthopedic Clinical Specialist, Sports Clinical Specialist) are preferred.

License: Must hold a current license to practice physical therapy in the State of Missouri issued by the Missouri Board of Registration for the Healing Arts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Provides high-quality physical therapy services for eligible members of the university community with an emphasis on improving movement, function, and overall wellness.

2. Performs physical therapy examinations, evaluations, diagnoses, prognoses, and develops individualized plans of care based on current best evidence and clinical practice standards.

3. Implements therapeutic interventions including therapeutic exercise, manual therapy, neuromuscular re-education, functional training, and patient education.

4. Provides physical therapy services within the Missouri State University Physical Therapy Clinic and may participate in outreach or service activities within the broader Missouri State University campus community.

5. Collaborates with physicians and other healthcare providers using an interdisciplinary team approach to optimize patient outcomes.

6. Ensures quality patient care by recommending appropriate clinical equipment, therapeutic modalities, and supplies necessary for effective rehabilitation services.

7. Maintains accurate and timely documentation of patient care consistent with professional, legal, and institutional standards.

8. Keeps current on developments in physical therapy practice through professional reading, continuing education, and attendance at professional meetings and conferences.

9. Prevents institutional liability by maintaining knowledge of federal and state laws governing physical therapy practice and by maintaining a current Missouri physical therapy license.

10. May assist with supervision or mentoring of physical therapy students, interns, or support personnel as appropriate.

11. Contributes to the success of the Physical Therapy Clinic by assisting with the development of clinical policies, procedures, and long-range goals related to rehabilitation services.

12. Remains competent and current through professional development, interdisciplinary collaboration, and training as required by the Physical Therapy Program Director and/or other designated administrators.

13. Contributes to the overall success of the Missouri State University Physical Therapy Clinic, the Missouri State University Doctor of Physical Therapy Program, and the university community by performing all other duties and responsibilities as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Physical Therapist, Clinical Staff does not have direct full-time supervisory responsibilities.
