GENERAL FUNCTION

The Admissions Coordinator is responsible for the overall admissions process to the undergraduate Nursing program, including the production and distribution of recruiting and application materials, admissions database management, academic advisement of program applicants, review of application materials, assistance in and coordination of the applicant selection process, post-decision counseling of unsuccessful applicants, and preparation of reports concerning the admission pool. The Admissions Coordinator assists with tracking of all graduates and provides data as requested for reporting or accreditation activities. The Admissions Coordinator maintains the Nursing web site to ensure all materials and website are current.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education: A bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area is required.

Experience: Experience in health professions academic advisement is preferred. Successful experience in working with the public is required.

Skills: Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills are required; the ability to work well with others as a team is required. Self-motivation is required. Computer skills are required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Other: Position may work at multiple university locations.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Assists with the recruitment and admission of students to the MSU Undergraduate Nursing program by working collaboratively with the BSN Program Coordinators overseeing the design, and distribution of internet materials related to admissions and application materials and represents the nursing departments as needed at recruiting events and functions.

2. Manages and responds to requests for information about the prelicensure nursing programs and prepares annual admissions pool reports and data on graduates by designing and maintaining the database system.

3. Ensures accurate communication with program applicants by telephone or in person.

4. Coordinates the applicant selection process by receiving and reviewing all application materials and assisting in and coordinating the applicant selection process.

5. Helps to strengthen re-applications by providing post-decision counseling for unsuccessful applicants.

6. Assists the nursing program undergraduate coordinators and the School Director in evaluating practice patterns, salary, etc. by tracking program graduates annually.

7. Provides support for program accreditation by collaborating with the Program Directors and the School Director providing data for federal training grants and accreditation activities.

8. Monitors and updates the information accessible on the Nursing website to ensure content reflects program changes.

9. Contributes to a positive and supportive work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

10. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional development, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional training courses, required by the School Director.

11. Helps to ensure the success of the Nursing Program by assisting with day-to-day operations of the program and performing other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION

The Admissions Coordinator for Nursing does not have any FT direct reports however, they may supervise up to one graduate assistant and two student workers.
