Session abstract

This session overviews a first-generation initiative, which focuses upon a specific advising program within one college. This program was designed to provide selected advisors with strategies, knowledge, and tools for utilizing a proactive advising approach with their advisees. Presenters will share the steps taken to create and implement the 6-hour workshop including the proactive advising approach to support first generation students. Interacting with the presenters, participants will have an opportunity to brainstorm and begin their own action plan for developing a similar workshop.

  • Participants will begin an action plan to create a first-generation advising workshop at their institution.
