Waste culture media should be autoclaved to inactivate any cultures that are growing. It can then be bagged and placed into the regular solid waste disposal receptacle.

Culture media from research labs that may contain mutagens are potentially harmful organisms must be bagged and sent out with the bio-hazard waste for incineration

Pathogenic organisms or contaminated materials must be sterilized prior to disposing with the trash. Materials designated as bloodborne pathogen contaminated must be disposed of as medical waste. This includes sharps (needles, syringes, scalpels, razors, Pasteur pipettes, etc.).
