Matthew Boswell

Photo of Matthew BoswellDr. Matthew Boswell comes to Missouri State from the Sunshine State of Florida. He earned both the PhD in Music Education with emphasis in Instrumental Conducting and the Master of Music Education degrees from the Florida State University in Tallahassee. His primary conducting teachers were Richard Clary and Patrick Dunnigan. He studied saxophone with Patrick Meighan.

In between his university study, Boswell taught high school band in both Fort Pierce and DeLand, Florida. Bands under his direction consistently received superior ratings at district and state competition and were recognized for their musicality. He holds professional memberships in the College Band Directors National Association, the National Association for Music Education, the Florida Music Education Association, the Florida Bandmasters Association, and honorary membership in Pi Kappa Lambda National Music Honor Society.

As a researcher, Boswell is interested in musical timing, the interaction of education policy and music education, lifelong music-making, and effective rehearsal techniques. He has been published in UPDATE: Applications of Research in Music Education and has presented both at the Florida Music Education Association Conference and the Desert Skies Symposium on Research in Music Learning and Teaching.
