Advising FAQ

At a minimum, all students with less than 75 credit hours are required to meet with their academic advisor once a semester to discuss registrations for the next term and receive their advising release to register. On top of that, your advisor is a resource to reach out to and meet any time you have questions or need help navigating campus resources- they are there to help! 

Advisor contact information can be found in our Advisor Directory as well as on your Advising Notes page in My Missouri State. All advisors have a Missouri State email address that you can use to contact them directly as well as online booking calendars located in the advisor directory to schedule appointments with them. 

Academic advisors are assigned based on major/academic program. All students with less than 60 credit hours are assigned a full-time staff advisor, and some programs will have students transition to faculty advising after the first 60 credit hours. 

Academic advisors assist with schedule planning and registration to ensure that students meet graduation requirements. Advisors are also here to help assist with University and academic policies, navigating campus resources, and exploring opportunities.
