Eight Goals for 2013-14

1. Enrollment

Continue to achieve modest annual growth consistent with the long-range plan goals.

  • Implement appropriate marketing recommendations
  • Annually update enrollment targets
  • Continue to strengthen relationships with community colleges
  • Expand and emphasize recruiting in Illinois
  • Continue to expand online, blended, evening and off-campus enrollment
  • Increase the number of international students
  • At West Plains, increase retention through Title III, TRIO and increased tutoring services; continue to emphasize the Education Guarantee program to include the "10 Steps to Success"

2. Funding

Allocate, reallocate and generate new resources to achieve University priorities.

  • Work to have COPHE funding formula endorsed by state leaders
  • Meet the five established statewide performance funding measures
  • Continue to allocate resources based largely on enrollment growth
  • Improve compensation for faculty and staff
  • Implement the first year of the Full Professor Incentive Program
  • Continue to seek additional sources of revenue, including private support "mini-campaigns"
  • Identify University-wide services that should be centrally funded

3. Accreditation

Develop the evidence to meet the criterion and core components necessary to achieve continued accreditation from the Higher Learning Commission (HLC), as well as other major accrediting agencies.

  • West Plains HLC accreditation – on-site visit scheduled for the spring of 2014
  • Springfield HLC accreditation – on-site visit scheduled for the fall of 2015
  • Accreditation from the Council for the Accreditation of Educator Preparation (CAEP) [formerly the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education or NCATE] for the College of Education and University
  • Successfully complete a variety of department- and program-specific accreditations on both campuses

4. Diversity and inclusion

Improve recruitment and retention of a diverse student body and workforce.

  • Implement new scholarship programs
  • Create and implement a faculty mentoring program
  • Host the second Statewide Collaborative Diversity Conference
  • Complete campus and community climate study focus groups
  • Create faculty affinity groups to assist with mentoring

5. Student success

Expand high-quality academic programs to increase opportunities for students.

  • Continue developing the four new online undergraduate programs
  • Develop a MOOC-like course as a pilot project, with the subject related to the Ozarks
  • Develop online dual credit courses on both the Springfield and West Plains campuses as pilot projects
  • Expand the allied health and agriculture programs on the West Plains campus
  • Continue expanding STEM-related programs, including the occupational therapy program as funding permits on the Springfield campus
  • Complete the curricular steps to create three new graduate programs
  • Focus more attention campus-wide on career placement

6. Facilities and sustainability

Design, bid, identify funding sources and begin construction on priority academic and auxiliary facilities, with a continued campus-wide emphasis on sustainability.

  • Academic priorities: Glass Hall, Pummill Hall and evaluation of best options to increase quality space for health and science programs
  • Auxiliary priorities: Sunvilla Tower and athletic and recreation facilities
  • Welcome Center near the entrance of National and Bear Blvd.
  • On the West Plains campus: Hass Hoover Hall and renovation of the post office
  • Complete the energy audit and implement the utility revolving loan fund
  • Complete the AASHE Sustainability Tracking, Assessment & Rating System™ (STARS) self-assessment and add at least one more of the seven specified tangible action options toward becoming climate neutral

7. Athletics

Be competitive, be compliant and be successful in the classroom.

  • Finish Top 3 in the MVC All-Sports standings
  • Football team finish in top four of MVC and/or be vying for playoff berth
  • Be fully compliant with NCAA rules
  • Prepare to add a women’s sport for fall of 2014 to ensure full compliance with Prong 1 of Title IX
  • Maintain APR above 930 for all teams
  • Enhance revenues
  • Complete renovations/relocations within facilities: JQH Arena locker rooms and offices, Mary Jo Wynn Achievement Center and improve Hammons Pool

8. Raising the profile

Continue to find ways to more effectively "tell the Missouri State story" to ever-increasing numbers of people in Missouri, the nation and around the world.

  • Evaluate and implement marketing project recommendations
  • Continue the ambitious schedule of alumni and athletic activities
  • Refresh and expand alumni activities
  • Complete the St. Louis plan for calendar year 2013
  • Develop a plan for Kansas City in calendar year 2014
  • Continue to expand use of social media for communicating effectively with alumni
  • Recognize the first inductees into the Missouri Public Affairs Hall of Fame
  • Enhance the marketing and recruitment efforts for graduate programs
  • On West Plains Campus, complete the 50th Anniversary Celebration year and implement Operation 50k, a year-long effort to contribute 50,000 hours of volunteer service by faculty, staff and students in honor of the anniversary
  • Identify and effectively publicize "Points of Pride" to key audiences
