A Message from the Faculty Senate Chair
Welcome to the Missouri State University Faculty Senate website.
The Faculty Senate is the representative body for the over 700 full-time faculty at Missouri State University. Membership includes voting representatives from every department and from each of the faculty ranks, as well as non-voting delegates from Staff Senate, Student Government Association, the Graduate Student Council, and each of the standing Senate committees. At regular monthly sessions and throughout the year in committee work, the Senate oversees curricular issues and provides the administration and Board of Governors with faculty perspectives and recommendations on matters of concern to faculty.
2012-13 will be a year of important transition for the university, with—among other things—proposed changes to the General Education Program and a search for the next university President on the calendar. Because shared governance is essential to a robust, progressive institution, I urge faculty to get involved as fully as possible in the shared responsibility of keeping Missouri State strong. Service on standing and ad-hoc committees is not limited to elected Senators; a complete listing of Senate committees is available through the “Committees” link.
All faculty and university community members are welcome to attend and voice their concerns at the monthly sessions. The agenda for each meeting is posted a week before the meeting, and the minutes are posted within a few days of a session’s end. A schedule of meetings for Senate and all standing committees is listed in the calendar.
In addition, this website contains a great deal of information about faculty-related issues, including links to the Faculty Handbook, The Constitution of the Faculty and Bylaws of the Faculty Senate, minutes and agendas from previous meetings, and an archive of past Senate Actions and Resolutions. Please note as well the links to important forms and information related to the curricular process (“Policies, Forms, and Resources”), including the curricular tracking log through which departments and faculty can trace the progress of curricular proposals.
Please do not hesitate to contact me or the Faculty Senate Office for more information. I am honored to serve as Chair for the 2012-13 year, and I look forward to working with you.
