Academic Renewal
Op3.04-2 Academic Renewal
Academic Renewal provides undergraduate students with an opportunity to improve their
academic standing by excluding the impact of previously earned grades from their GPA,
under the conditions outlined below.
Eligibility
- Available to undergraduate students only.
- Must be elected prior to earning any degree, including associates degrees, at Missouri State University or any other institution.
- The student must have experienced an absence of five or more consecutive years from any higher education institution before re-enrolling at Missouri State.
- Academic Renewal may be elected only once in a student’s academic career.
Scope of Renewal
- Applies to all courses (passed or failed, regardless of institution) taken prior to the selected renewal date.
- The academic record is not erased. All grades remain visible on the transcript.
- Grades from the renewal period are excluded from GPA calculations.
- A notation will appear on the transcript indicating that Academic Renewal has been granted.
Limitations
- Credit hours excluded through Academic Renewal cannot be used to fulfill any academic
requirements, including:
- Graduation
- Prerequisites
- Certifications
- Academic Renewal is a Missouri State University policy and may not be recognized by other institutions or external agencies.
- Once elected, Academic Renewal is irrevocable.
Application Process
- Students must consult with an academic advisor before applying.
- A formal application must be submitted.
- Final approval is granted by the Office of the Provost.
