Building and preserving your health takes paying attention to a variety of things. Usually, people focus on the most obvious aspects of health – what you eat and how/how much you exercise. But, without good social-emotional development, you won’t get the full benefit from your other efforts.
So, what does having/developing good social-emotional development really mean? It means learning how to manage stress well so that it doesn’t hurt you or your relationships. It means learning how to connect with others. It means learning about what goes on inside of you and learning how to notice what happens with others. It means learning how to be who you really are and learning how to appreciate yourself and others just as you are.
The lessons contained on this site will help you build a wide variety of basic social-emotional skills to help you better achieve your goals. Will you get all the skills you will ever need? No, but this is a great start. The real trick is practicing what you learn immediately and noticing what happens.
For the teachers who will be using this site, I have also provided a link to a “sister-site” that has a wealth of resiliency skill building activities and resources. Feel free to use any/all of them. They won’t replace curriculum but can be adapted to be the vehicle to provide curricular instruction (with bonus learning!).
