Graduate Student Success and Intercultural Skills

LCR 611  |  3 Credit Hours
3 Credit hrs

This course examines strategies for adapting to different cultural situations and academic environments, with an emphasis on U.S. educational practices, cross-cultural communication, and scholarly conventions. Students develop organizational skills and cultural competence suited to the demands of graduate study, and explore campus and community resources available to support their academic goals.

 

Graduate Intercultural Information Literacy

LCR 612  |  3 Credit Hours
3 Credit hrs

This course develops the academic vocabulary and research skills needed to find, evaluate, integrate, and properly cite sources in English academic writing and speaking. Students also examine the responsible use of artificial intelligence in academic contexts and the expectations surrounding academic integrity at U.S. universities.

 

What Students Gain

U.S. Academic Culture and Expectations
Students develop an understanding of U.S. university conventions, including classroom norms, faculty-student communication, and academic professional behavior.

Academic English Skills
Coursework builds the vocabulary, writing strategies, and oral communication skills required for graduate-level academic work in English.

 

Research and Information Literacy
Students learn to locate, evaluate, integrate, and properly cite credible sources while maintaining an independent academic voice.
Intercultural Competence
Students build the cross-cultural awareness and organizational skills needed to navigate diverse academic and professional environments effectively.

B2+ (standard score) Regular admission. Elective: LCR 611 or LCR 612 available for additional support
