Missouri State Alert to the Campus Community (March 10)

The following Missouri State Alert was sent to the Missouri State community on March 10, 2020.

Subject: University issues travel directive

A message from Missouri State University

In the next few weeks, many members of our campus community may be traveling for work, school or personal reasons.

Due to the continued spread of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), the university is issuing a travel directive that applies to all faculty, staff and students.

Individuals who are arriving on campus or returning from any country designated by the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) as Level 2 or higher due to COVID-19 contagion risk, must:

  • Immediately contact Magers Health and Wellness Center (Magers) at 417-837-3777.
  • Comply with any and all precautionary protocols established by the university (including Magers) and/or the Springfield-Greene County Health Department prior to and upon returning to campus, which may include a 14-day quarantine.
  • Immediately contact Magers to report the presentation of any COVID-19 symptoms.

Failure to comply with this campus-arrival directive increases the risk to campus and the surrounding community. As a result, any willful disregard or violation of this directive may be subject to university sanction.

Countries with travel restrictions as of March 10, 2020, include China, Iran, Italy, Japan and South Korea.

Use basic protective measures

At the current time, there have not been any confirmed cases of COVID-19 in Springfield. However, as you’re traveling over spring break, it’s still a good idea to take precautions to avoid exposure to any illnesses such as cold and flu.

  • Wash your hands often for at least 20 seconds.
  • If soap and water are not available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
  • Avoid touching your nose, eyes or mouth.
  • Maintain at least 3 feet distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

University policy on foreign travel

Foreign travel for university business must be approved prior to making arrangements.
