Language Proficiency Assessments

Many high school students achieve recognition for their bilingual abilities through state-recognized seals of biliteracy. To further validate their language proficiency, they often participate in standardized assessments aligned with the American Council on the Teaching of Foreign Languages (ACTFL) guidelines.

Available ACTFL-referenced exams

For students interested in receiving credit for their language proficiency, Missouri State University acknowledges scores from the following ACTFL-referenced standardized assessments:

Earning credit for language proficiency

Submitting scores for credit

Students seeking credit through the Department of Languages, Cultures and Religions must adhere to the Initial Placement Policy and Credit for Prior Learning Policy. To do this, submit official assessment score reports, including subsection scores, via email to LCR@MissouriState.edu.

When subsection scores are not on transcripts

It's rare, but sometimes subsection scores are included on high school transcripts. If they're not, you'll need to have an official school representative send your score report directly to the Department.
