Writing Center

The Writing Center serves Missouri State University by working with students, faculty, and staff on their writing projects. We are located in Pummill Hall 401 and we are open Mondays through Thursdays from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Fridays from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m.

Scheduling an Appointment

All appointments are scheduled at the top of the hour, and all appointments assure a 45-minute session with a tutor. You may schedule an appointment online (recommended) or by calling 836-6398.

Walk-ins

You are welcome to walk-in for an appointment anytime we are open; however, walk-ins are not guaranteed a session. For a walk-in session, we recommend dropping by the center on the half hour.

Tutor Sessions

Our tutors are comfortable working with any step in the writing process: brainstorming, researching, drafting, and revising; however, they cannot proofread writing projects. Our goal is to help students become better writers, not to help our tutors become better editors.

Preparing for Sessions

Our tutors will help you in every way possible during your session, but there are a few ways you can prepare ahead of time to make the most of your session:

  • Bring your project in well before it is due
  • Bring your instructor's assignment sheet, related class handouts, and textbook
  • List your goals for the assignment
  • Note the sections of your project that you feel are questionable
  • Write a list of questions about your project
  • Make a list of comments and suggestions that were marked on your other papers
  • Bring your instructor's name and e-mail address

Session Documentation

Every time you book, cancel, or move an appointment, we'll send you an e-mail of the change. If your instructor needs proof that you came to the center, give your tutor your instructor's name and e-mail address, and your tutor will e-mail your professor.
