Packing List

Transform your room into your home away from home by following our recommended packing list. Every student may have different needs, but this gives you a good start of things to consider. Make sure to consult your roommate to avoid purchasing doubles of items.

Room and Bath Supplies

  • Pillow, comforter and blankets
  • Extra-long twin sheets (all beds are 80 inches long)
  • Towels and washcloths
  • Bath mat for suite-style rooms
  • Area and/or throw rugs
  • Non-halogen lamp and light bulbs
  • Alarm clock
  • Flashlight with batteries
  • Full-length mirror
  • Hangers
  • Toilet paper (provided in community bathrooms)
  • Trash can(s) and trash can liners
  • Plastic food storage containers with lids
  • Dishes and tableware
  • Can opener and ice cube trays
  • Auto-shutoff coffee pot or kettle
  • Blender, toaster and air popcorn maker
  • 3M Command adhesives
  • Posters and pictures
  • Message board and dry-erase markers
  • Calendar or planner
  • Pens, pencils, notepads, notebooks and binders
  • Backpack

Laundry and Personal Hygiene Supplies

  • Detergent, fabric softener or dyer sheets (please do not bring 3-in-1 laundry sheets)
  • Laundry bag or basket
  • Auto-shutoff iron
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Soap, shampoo, toothbrush and toothpaste
  • Shaving or makeup items
  • White-soled shower shoes and shower caddy
  • Prescription or over-the-counter medications
  • Thermometer and first-aid kit

  • BearPass card
  • Driver’s license
  • Checkbook
  • Insurance cards
  • Passport/visa
  • Social security card

  • Computer and Ethernet cable

  • TV (some TVs require a digital converter box from Mediacom)

What not to bring

  • Bed risers (any kind)
  • Alcoholic beverages or containers
  • Tobacco products (Missouri State is a tobacco-free campus)
  • Illegal drugs or paraphernalia
  • Candles, incense, fireworks, Scentsy candle warmers, etc.
  • Open-coiled appliances
  • Heaters or heating units
  • Toaster, pizza or microwave ovens
  • Refrigerators
  • Lava lamps, halogen lamps or lamps with narrow plastic shades
  • Ozone machines
  • Water beds
  • Lofts
  • Weapons (or anything that may be construed as a weapon)
  • Pets (exception: fish in a tank 20 gallons or less)
  • 3-in-1 laundry sheets
  • Smart TVs (without Ethernet capability)
  • Google Chromecast, Roku Sticks, Amazon Fire Sticks, routers, hubs, wireless access points or smart home devices (Wi-Fi connected light bulbs, digital voice assistants such as Amazon Echo and Google Home)
  • Any wireless devices lacking WPA2 Enterprise Encryption support
  • Wireless printers
