Missouri State University is approved for certification of students eligible to receive educational assistance (G.I. Bill) from the Department of Veterans Affairs (DVA). All students who receive benefits through the DVA are assisted by a Veterans Certifying Official in the Office of the Registrar, Carrington Hall, Room 320, phone (417) 836-5520, fax (417) 836-8776. Office hours are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., excluding holidays.
The information stated here is based on existing rules and regulations of the Department of Veterans Affairs and should not be construed as being absolute. New rules and regulations are being released by the DVA continually and may supersede the information stated here. The DVA will notify you of changes that will affect your benefits (G.I. Bill).
In order to continue your veteran's education benefits, you must complete a Veteran Certification Request for the fall 2008 semester. Forms are also available in the Office of the Registrar in Carrington Hall 320.
Described below are chapters under which you may qualify:
Persons who entered active duty after July 1, 1985, and had their military pay reduced by $100 per month for 12 months, may qualify for this program. This is a non-refundable contribution. These persons also must have served a minimum of two years, earned a high school diploma or its equivalent either prior to, or during the qualifying enlistment, and must have an honorable discharge. Other requirements may apply.
This program provides benefits for members of the Reserve/National Guard who enlisted, re-enlisted or extended their enlistment for a period of six years after July 1, 1985.
This program provides up to 36 months of education benefits to members of the Selected Reserves, Individual Ready Reserve (IRR), and National Guard, who are called or ordered to active service in response to a war or national emergency.
This program provides benefits for dependents and spouses of veterans who died or are 100% disabled due to service-connected causes.
Eligibility for this program is determined by the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs. The program provides payment of required fees and a monthly allotment.
Additional Entitlements
Tutorial Assistance is available to eligible persons to help with the cost of tutors. Veterans Work Study Program is available to certain eligible students at approved locations. Advance Payment of educational assistance allowance is intended to help students meet school-related and other expenses which are concentrated at the beginning of a term. When a veteran, serviceperson, reservist, or other eligible person enrolls at a half-time rate or more, and is not eligible for an interval payment, he or she may elect, in writing, to be paid in advance for the first initial month or a fraction thereof at the beginning of the term plus the amount payable for the following month. Students should be aware that if they receive advance payments at the beginning of a fall term commencing in September, they will not receive their November benefit check until after December 1.
- You are required to complete a Veterans Certification Request Form every semester (summer and fall may be submitted on one form) to continue receiving veterans education benefits. Forms are available online or in the Missouri State University Office of the Registrar in Carrington Hall 320.
- In order to comply with laws governing education benefits, it is your responsibility to notify the Missouri State University Office of the Registrar of your status at the University which includes when you: add or drop a course, change your major, change your address, withdraw from the University, or need tutorial assistance.
- If you do not make satisfactory academic progress and are suspended from the University, your education benefits cannot be resumed until you have met the University requirements for reinstatement.
- Your benefits may be terminated if you do not comply with the regulations stated above.

Continuing Students
If you have previously received education benefits at Missouri State University, you will need to complete a Veterans Certification Request Form each semester of enrollment (summer and fall may be submitted on one form).
Transfer Students
When your admission to Missouri State University is complete, please contact the Missouri State University office of the Registrar in order to complete the process for continuing your G.I. Bill.
