We understand that learning happens both inside and out of the classroom. That’s why we support a variety of organizations and programs that help you gain valuable real-world experience to better prepare you for success as a student and professional.

Student organizations

Involvement in these organizations provides you with valuable networking opportunities and chances to make a positive difference in the Missouri State and Springfield communities. The School of Social Work sponsors three student organizations:

Alpha Delta Mu, a national social work honor society for undergraduate students with a cumulative 3.0 GPA and a 3.5 major GPA

The Bachelor of Social Work Student Association

Master’s of Social Work Student Association

Hands-on learning opportunities

The School of Social Work also supports numerous opportunities for you to gain real-world experience outside of the classroom:

Field education for undergraduate and graduate students provide a way for you to get involved with a community organization, learn about a specific area of social work and gain valuable work experience.

The Missouri Mentoring Partnership is a grant project managed by the School of Social Work that prepares youth for personal success.
The Future Health Professionals Living-Learning Community is an ideal living environment for students interested in a health care or human services career.

The Teen Enrichment and Mentoring program provides after-school mentoring to youth ages 13-17.

Continuing education

We also offer several continuing education seminars for upper-level social work students, graduates of our programs and area social workers. These sessions cover current issues, such as girls in the juvenile justice system and play therapy.
