2015-2016 Sugar Bears Dance Team Auditions

 

 

Requirements for 2015-2016 Sugar Bears Auditions:

 

*The deadline to submit all forms and required information is Sunday, April 12!!!

 

1. Attend at least one of the clinics on April 12 and April 17. It is recommended that you attend the clinic on April 12 if at all possible. That will give you more time to work on things that we go over in the clinic. Attending again on April 17 will be a nice refresher before the auditions. It is only required to attend one of the two, but you can attend both.

2. Submit Signed Release Form  - must be received by Sunday, April 12

3. Photocopy of health insurance card (front & back) - must be received by Sunday, April 12

4. Submit your Tryout Application - fill out all information - deadline to submit is Sunday, April 12

5. Attach recent wallet photo to your application - deadline to submit is Sunday, April 12

6. Copy of current physical from the past 6 months clearing you for dancing, gymnastics tricks and other physical activity - must be received by Sunday, April 12

7. Incoming freshmen and transfer students: provide proof of acceptance to MSU for Fall 2015 - deadline to submit is Sunday, April 12

8. Current MSU Students: submit photocopy of Spring & Fall 2015 schedules and printout of unofficial transcript from my.missouristate.edu (deadline to submit is Sunday, April 12)

9. $40 clinic and tryout fees - must be received by Sunday, April 12 (this fee covers both clinics and auditions)

 

*All applicants must have and maintain a minimum 2.0 GPA (semester and cumulative), and all spirit squad members must complete a minimum of 12 credit hours for both the fall and spring semesters (24 credit hours total).

  

Tryout Clinics:

 

Tryout clinics will be held in the East Court of Hammons Student Center. Please enter through the east doors (marked Volleyball - facing JQH Arena).

Clinic: 7:00pm - 9:00pm

 

Tryout Participants:

 

All of the required items listed above are due by Sunday, April 12. If you are only attending the clinic on Friday, April 17, you will need to send all of the required items so that they are received in the mail to the following address by Friday, April 10. Make checks payable to MSU.

The clinic will include a group stretch, skills across the floor, turns, reviewing hip hop tricks, learning fight song and choreography and a short information session at the end. The tryout clinics are closed to the public. Our goal is to prepare dancers as much as possible for the audition.

 

High School Freshmen, Sophomores and Juniors Just Attending Clinics:

High school underclassmen are also welcome to attend the clinics with the following required items:

1. Submit Signed Release Form  - must be received by Sunday, April 12

2. Photocopy of health insurance card (front & back) - must be received by Sunday, April 12

3. $20 clinic fee (this covers underclassmen clinic participation only and allows participation in both clinics) - must be received by Sunday, April 12

Please note that a parent signature AND participant signature are required on the Release Form for dancers who are under 18 years old. 

Underclassmen - if you are attending the clinic on April 12, please bring the items listed above to the clinic registration. If you are only attending the clinic on Friday, April 17, please mail the above items to the following address so they are received by Friday, April 10. Make checks payable to MSU. The reason for this is to keep things less complicated. I am not accepting any paperwork, etc... after Sunday, April 12.

Suggested Attire for Tryout Clinics: (there is no need to purchase anything new for the clinic)

Sports bra or fitted dance top

Dance shorts

Jazz shoes  

 

Auditions:

 

During semi-finals and finals, dancers will be evaluated on turns, leaps, flexibility, showmanship, musicality, jazz choreography, pom choreography, hip hop choreography, hip hop tricks, overall technique and an interview with the judges. Fight Song could also be evaluated during auditions. Be prepared for a possible fitness test, as well. Dancers should be ready for everything on both days.

 

Saturday, April 18, 2015  (first day of evaluations)

8:30am: check-in (and possible photo shoot)

9:00am: audition begins

 

Finalists will be posted on Facebook (Missouri State Sugar Bears Dance Team) once the scores have been tallied.

 

Sunday, April 19, 2015 (finals)

8:30am: check-in

9:00am: audition begins 

 

The 2015-2016 Sugar Bears Dance Team will be announced online and/or via Twitter by 6pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.

 

Tryout attire for both days (wear the same outfit both days):

Fitted, sleeveless, cropped dance top or sports bra in any color. Please choose a color and style that is comfortable and flattering, and avoid prints.

Fitted dance shorts in any coordinating color.

Black sweat pants may be worn over your dance shorts while learning the hip hop choreography and the hip hop evaluation.

Jazz shoes (or Pirouette style shoes) for jazz and pom/fight song evaluation (tan is recommended)

Tennis shoes or hip hop shoes for hip hop tricks and hip hop choreography evaluation

Hair & Make-up: Arrive with performance make-up and your hair down and styled. You will get your picture taken first thing Saturday morning. Bring hair supplies to quickly put your hair up in a ponytail for the turning and hip hop trick evaluation portion of tryouts.
