8 am, Residence Hall Move-In (Residence Halls)
It’s move-in time! Missouri State welcomes residence hall students back to campus and will have Bear Crew volunteers available to help unload your belongings. Res Life Move-In website
3 and 4 pm, Parent and Family Welcome and Informational (Plaster Student Union Theater)
While students are busy unpacking their room, parents and family members are invited to the Plaster Student Union Theater for a special campus welcome from the Missouri State Family Association. Please plan to attend one of the two sessions offered at 3:00 and 4:00 pm. The Family Association will be announcing the Missouri State Welcome Discounts for dinner and entertainment specials offered downtown.
5-8 pm, Dinner on Campus or at Specific Downtown Restaurants
Enjoy dinner as a family in one of the Missouri State Dining Centers or at downtown restaurant downtown offering the Missouri State Welcome Discount. (list of participating restaurants is available here)
8 pm, Playfair (Recreation Fields)
This high energy, interactive event is the perfect way to make new friends at Missouri State! Playfair is a team-building experience that has a long-lasting effect on the students of Missouri State – sponsored by the Residence Hall Association and the Office of Student Engagement. Student Only Event
10 pm, Outdoor Games (North Mall)
Students will be invited back to the North Mall to enjoy our inflatable games and have some refreshments while waiting for the outdoor movie to begin – sponsored by Christian Campus House. Student Only Event
10 pm, Free Outdoor Movie The Hunger Games (North Mall)
Students are invited to stay on the North Mall for an amazing outdoor movie experience on a 15 foot by 20 foot inflatable movie screen – sponsored by the Student Activities Council. Student Only Event
9 am-9 pm, Foster Recreation Center Tours (Foster Recreation Center)
Come check out the newest building on the Missouri State University campus and learn about all of the programs and services the Foster Recreation Center will provide.
11 am-1 pm, Parent/Student Aloha Brunch and Goodbyes (Campus Dining Centers)
In Hawaii, the term Aloha is used as both a warm welcome and a fond farewell. This free (for those students with a meal plan and for the parents of those students with a meal plan) Hawaiian themed brunch will be available in all of the Campus Dining Centers between 11am and 1pm and will allow the campus to provide a warm welcome to our new students and a fond farewell to the families of our students. University faculty and staff will be at each dining center greeting students and families and answering any remaining questions. Parents and families are encouraged to attend and enjoy a final meal before saying goodbye to their students.
12-4 pm, Bear Paw, Oops I forgot … (Bear Paw)
Many students quickly realize on their second day that they may have forgotten some things at home - this program was created to help students take care of any last minute shopping needs or to simply get off campus and explore some of Springfield. From 11am – 3pm shuttle buses will be offering free rides from campus to local retailers – sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement
6:30-8:30 pm, TRANSFERmation (Carrington Auditorium)
Transfer students are encouraged to attend this 2 hour orientation and learn about the services provided to this specific population of Missouri State students. At the end of the session, students will walk over to the Plaster Student Union for Bear Bash. Information will be sent to invited students later this summer. Student Only Event
7:30 pm-1 am, Bear Bash (Plaster Student Union)
Join us for a night of FUN!!! We start the night with a Bear Bash Fan Fest at 7:00pm and the official doors opening to Bear Bash at 9pm. Over 5000 students attend Bear Bash every year making it one of the largest student events of the year. Bear Bash has free food, games, Texas Hold 'Em, Bowling, and much more!!! The first 1,000 students get a free Missouri State t-shirt. End the night with the best breakfast buffet on campus, – sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement, Plaster Student Union, Student Activities Council, Residence Hall Association, Partners in Prevention, and the Dean of Students office.
12:30 pm, Fraternity & Sorority Life 101 (Hammons Student Center)
This presentation is for students interested in learning more about fraternity or sorority membership. – sponsored by Fraternity & Sorority Life.
2 pm, New Student Convocation (JQH Arena)
The New Student Convocation officially marks the start of the 2012-2013 academic year. Students attending will also learn more about the university’s public affairs mission in addition to this year’s public affairs theme of “Inclusive Excellence” – sponsored by the Provost Office, the Division of Student Affairs, and the Office of Student Engagement.
3-4:30 pm, New Student Festival (Plaster Student Union)
Over 200 student organizations and departments at Missouri State will set up tables in the Plaster Student Union to share information and recruit new students. This program is your involvement “one stop shop” event of the year – sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement
4-6:00 pm, Commuter Meet and Greet (Plaster Student Union Room 400)
Commuter students are encouraged to attend the Commuter Meet & Greet (free pizza) Meet new people and get answers to your last minute questions in the Plaster Student Union. This is the perfect time to make connections with other commuters, faculty and staff.
4:30-6:30 pm, Belong-B-Q (Tent behind Freudenberger Residence Hall)
This BBQ dinner is the perfect opportunity for students wanting to learn more about multicultural experiences at Missouri State - hosted by Multicultural Student Services, the Vice President for Diversity and Inclusion, the Division of Student Affairs, the Office of Student Engagement, Residence Life, Housing and Dinig Services, the Missouri State Bookstore, and many of our student organizations.
