Devin Duncan works in a New York City office of KPMG, one of the nation's "big four" public accounting firms.
Why I chose Missouri State: I’m from Springfield, and I knew MSU had a good accounting program and the option for an accelerated master’s. Going through the master’s program was beneficial. I am a Certified Public Accountant (CPA), and the Master of Accountancy program prepared me to take the CPA exam.
How the program helped me start my career: I was involved in business organizations and went to a lot of accounting career fairs, both of which helped me network and meet people who could help my career down the road. I had great professors who connected me with BKD, where I was an intern during college. That turned into a job. I would say going to MSU got me that job at BKD, where I worked for about five years before moving to New York a few years ago.
What I do in New York: At KPMG, I work predominantly with tax-exempt clients such as philanthropic and charitable organizations. I work with quite a few international charities, and learning about the global business environment makes my work so interesting. I enjoy public accounting and could see myself someday working for a large charity.
Life outside of work: I've always been pretty active. I like to run and do other outdoor activities. My husband (Blake, also an MSU alumnus) and I try to get out of the city every weekend and go hiking, to small-town festivals or apple picking. We love being in New York — there are good restaurants and good concerts!
How I stay connected to MSU: Blake and I try to go to all of the alumni events in New York City. We went to one last spring that was really great!
