It was close to home without being at home, and schools in Missouri are much less expensive than schools in Illinois.
Why did you choose Missouri State University?
It was the most affordable, and the honors program is really good here. I liked the school when I toured. Everything was easy to walk to. I also noticed on my tour, just walking around, that everybody was wearing maroon and white and were very energetic and happy to be here.

Yes, I have a scholarship. It’s really easy here to get financial aid. Missouri State, by far, is the best at giving scholarships and financial aid to people who need it and deserve it for what they have done in high school.
How do you keep in touch with friends and family in Illinois?
Facebook, phone, Skype — it’s all pretty easy to do! And it’s easy to drive back and forth. It’s only about a three-hour drive.

Collinsville is much smaller than Springfield. There’s no movie theater, no mall — but we have the world’s biggest ketchup bottle!
What are your favorite things to do in Springfield?
Definitely the best thing to do is go to the Springfield Cardinals games! I am from east of St. Louis, so I like going to the Cardinal games here — it’s just like being home.

I have actually switched majors three times now. It was easy to try new things as I figured out what I wanted to do.
What has been your favorite class outside of your major?
Probably my English 1 class. English has been the one thing I’ve struggled with most since my high school career. My professor took the time and worked with me. It was a great class and a really great experience. Those were probably the best papers I ever wrote, because she just gave feedback constantly.
What is your dream job?
To be a high school history teacher in some small school, like where I am from.
