Finding the perfect mix of academics and activities

Three factors made Missouri State University the college for Justin Morrison: a convenient location, affordable academic programs and student life.

“I could get the feel of being away from home without being away from home.”

Affordable, excellent and home are the three words Springfield native Justin Morrison uses to describe Missouri State. “I actually decided to pick Missouri State because I could get the feel of being away from home without being away from home. I could go to school just five miles away from my house and live in the residence halls, as well. It would be the exact same college experience as going away,” says Justin.

Justin admits he enjoys the convenience of being close to home, too: “If you need something or get sick and want to go home for mom to take care of you, you’re just right there. It’s not a big hassle on you or your parents.”

“You can never be bored on campus.”

To get the ultimate college experience, Justin chose to live on campus his freshmen year. “Living on campus was definitely a must. Living in the residence halls, networking with people, building friendships, going Greek—it really helps you to grow up and see who you are as a person,” he explains.

Justin, a self-described people person, also found that living in a residence hall made it easier to get involved in campus activities and enjoy the social side of college. “Missouri State, with the SAC, offers such good programs,” he says. “You can never be bored on campus. There’s always something to do, and I really like that.”

“It’s really worthwhile especially since it’s in your backyard.”

To help him build a successful business career, he also wanted a college with a great management program “Missouri State has an exceptional business program,” Justin explains. “It’s half the cost of some other business schools. It’s really worthwhile especially since it’s in your backyard.”

As he moves closer to graduation, Justin plans to take advantage of the networking events hosted by various business fraternities and interview opportunities coordinated by the Career Center to get his foot in the door. “Everything that they offer here is so incredible,” says Justin.

His advice to other local students looking at colleges is simple: “Missouri State is the best choice to make when you are so close to home.”
