Our Mission
The University Safety & Transportation Department fosters a safe and secure environment for the university community through professional services in law enforcement, security, crime prevention/education, and traffic/parking with an emphasis on community policing concepts.
Our Radio Communications Center Has Moved!
Please pardon our progress! Effective August 4th, 2011, the Radio Communications Center (RCC) for the Safety & Transportation Department has moved to a new facility located in the JQH Arena, adjacent to the loading ramp. For phone calls and RCC operations, this move will have very limited effect of the remainder of campus. Since there will be limited access to the RCC, most business conducted with them will need to be conducted via telephone at their normal number - 836-5509.
In the past, the radio operators have acted as a 24/7 reception counter for the Safety Department, Motor Pool, Parking Administration, SPD Substation, and limited key checkout. With this move, the radio operators will be refocused on their primary responsibilities, and these peripheral responsibilities are being largely discontinued. Since there will no longer be a 24/7 reception desk staffing at the Safety Department at 636 E. Elm, or the Transit Operations Center at 700 E. Elm, any business at those locations will have to be conducted during normal business hours (8am-4:30pm, Monday through Friday) or, in an emergency, via telephone with the RCC after hours.
Safety Officers and SPD Officers will, of course, continue to be available 24/7/365, and can be contacted by calling the normal RCC number at 836-5509.
