Department of Religious Studies

Other Internship Opportunities

Other internship opportunities are available from various organizations.  No formal internship agreement with the MSU Religious Studies Department currently exists for these opportunities; however, students may apply directly to these organizations and, once accepted for an internship, to contact the Religious Studies office to determine the feasibility of the internship being offered for Religious Studies credit (REL 499).  The internship should …

… allow students to apply knowledge, skills and perspective acquired in the Religious Studies major or minor.
… include a strong academic component that integrates the internship experience with the Religious Studies curriculum.  This will likely be some combination of at least two of the following:  portfolio of work, journal, paper, presentation, annotated bibliography, reading list, etc.

NOTE:  Every REL internship requires a 5 page academic evaluation and analysis discussing the ways in which this internship experience relates to their academic work in Religious Studies.

Jefferson City Legislative Internship Program

A legislative internship at the state capitol in Jefferson City is a great opportunity to apply academic skills that you are strengthening in the Religious Studies major.  Religious Studies students are challenged to develop strong reading, writing, research and communication skills that will prove valuable for such an internship.   Should you apply for the legislative internship and be accepted, the Religious Studies department would be happy to assist you in setting up that internship so you can also receive REL 499 (1-6 credit hours) for academic credit.  Contact the Department of Religious Studies for more information.

ISA Portfolio Advisor Information

These two organizations, GlobaLinks and ISA are highly recommended for students who would like to participate in an international internship.  If an REL major or minor applies and is accepted for one of these international internships, we can set that up as a REL 499 internship (1-6 credit hours) for academic credit.  Contact the REL Internship Committee (Micki Pulleyking, John Strong, Lora Hobbs) concerning any questions.
