Enrollment Verification

The method for requesting an enrollment verification letter depends on which semester's enrollment and how much information is required.

Note to veteran students: This enrollment verification process is separate from veterans benefits certification. If you are receiving veterans benefits, you must complete forms each semester through Veterans Student Services.

Current and past semester enrollment verification

  • Use your BearPass number to access the National Student Clearinghouse Self-Service feature to instantly print your own enrollment certificate to mail to insurance companies, lenders, etc. This certificate will only include your name, enrollment status (full-time, half-time, or less than half-time), and beginning/ending dates of term. See below for more information about the National Student Clearinghouse.
  • If additional information such as GPA or other "Non-Directory Information" is required, an Enrollment Verification Request form must be completed and mailed, faxed, or hand-carried to the Office of the Registrar. Office location, mailing address, and fax number are at the top of the form. See below for more information on what is, and is not, considered "Directory Information."

Future semester enrollment verification (must be officially registered)

  • For a standard enrollment verification letter that only includes your name, enrollment status (full-time, half-time, less than half-time), and beginning/ending dates of semester, you may submit an online request for letter. Student must be officially registered for the semester before enrollment can be verified.

In-person requests

Students may also request and pick up enrollment verification letters at the Office of the Registrar, Carrington Hall Room 320. Such letters are typically available within one business day.

More information

The Office of the Registrar participates in an enrollment verification program through the National Student Clearinghouse. The Clearinghouse is a source for instant verification of post-secondary student enrollment and graduation data. This service is paid for and utilized by lenders, guarantor, health insurers, credit issuers, employers, background screening firms, and other organizations so they can efficiently and accurately verify academic status of their clients. Students and organizations may contact the National Student Clearinghouse at service@studentclearinghouse.org or call 703-742-4200 to learn more.

Updated enrollment information is electronically transmitted to the Clearinghouse prior to the first day of term, first day of term, end of first week of term, mid-term, and end of term. Degree verifications are transmitted approximately three weeks after commencement and again mid-term of the following term.

What is Directory Information?

Under the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), only selected information about a student, designated as "Directory Information," can be released without the student's written consent (or as otherwise specifically allowed under FERPA). Refer to the Notification of Student Rights for more information and a definition of "Directory Information".
