Guidance and procedures related to academic appeals for undergraduate and graduate
students are listed below. Appeal procedures may have multiple steps available. If your first appeal is denied and you wish to appeal the decision, then proceed to
step number 2, then 3, etc.
1. First, a written appeal to the Degrees Committee. Note: for appeals of the 12-hour
language requirement, a letter of support from the department head of Languages, Cultures and Religions is strongly recommended.
1. First, present appeal to the Office of Assessment, Exit Survey Administrator, Meyer
Library 007E, 417-836-6120, or exitexam@missouristate.edu, who will consult with the Director of Assessment;
1. First, present appeal to the faculty member’s department head;
2. If the previous step is denied, then to the college dean;
3. If the previous step is denied, next to the Dean of the Graduate College, if the
appeal is in a course taken for graduate credit;
4. If the previous step is denied, then to the Provost, who may refer the appeal to

5. If the previous step is denied, finally, to the President of the University.
First, present appeal to your graduate program director using form (Request for 8-Year
Exception) provided by the Graduate College. Program director completes form indicating
recommendations and rationale and submits form to the Associate Provost-Dean of the Graduate College in Carrington Hall 306, 417-836-5335.
Students who wish to participate in a ceremony prior to their semester of graduation
(except summer graduates who wish to participate in the preceding spring) may appeal
to the Chief Academic Strategy Officer (undergraduate students) or Associate Provost
and Dean of the Graduate College, (graduate students). If approved, the listing of
their names in the commencement program will remain in the semester of graduation.
