During the implementation of the faculty compensation plan, one problem became very apparent: while the compensation plan assumed a system of fair assignments for each classification of faculty (tenure track, tenured, and nontenure eligible), not every unit had such a process in place. Some colleges were in good shape on this issue, but many departments did not have a fair, rational, explicit and transparent policy for distributing faculty assignments.
College Workload Policies should be a university-wide discussion as well as a department one; accordingly, President Nietzel has appointed a university task force chaired by Dr. Libby Rozell to examine the matter. In the interim, each department and/or program has been asked to ensure that a fair, rational, explicit and transparent faculty assignment plan is in place by the time 2008 assignments are finalized. Deans were asked to submit these written plans to the provost’s office for review; they appear below.
