Welcome to Missouri State University
Dear New Faculty Member:
On behalf of the Provost’s Office, we have the pleasure of welcoming you to Missouri State. We have some very accomplished faculty here and are glad you have chosen to become part of that group. Staff and administrators in the Office of the Provost, the Faculty Center for Teaching and Learning, and the Office of Sponsored Research are committed to helping you make the transition to Missouri State and working with you over the years to achieve your goals. Also, we have collegial faculty at Missouri State and encourage you to take advantage of the expertise and experience of your colleagues in your department, college, and across the university as you settle in.
The week before Fall 2013 classes begin (on Monday, August 12), the Office of Human Resources and the Office of the Provost will host a New Faculty Orientation on August 12–13 (Monday–Tuesday), an important event for all new faculty. New Faculty Orientation begins with a half-day program with staff from the Office of Human Resources. This program covers benefits and retirement information. A second half-day program is designed by the Office of the Provost to acquaint faculty with the University’s mission and to assist in their preparation for success in teaching, research, and service. We’ll have some fun getting to know some unique things about Missouri State University, and you’ll have lunch and time for discussion with your dean. We will be sharing a list of planned development opportunities that will occur throughout the academic year, and we will want to hear your thoughts about specific topics that would be useful. Monday concludes with an evening reception for new faculty hosted by President and Mrs. Smart. You will receive a separate invitation from the President's office with details regarding the reception.
Finally, in preparation for orientation and your employment, we direct you to the link in the left navigation menu, Getting Started—Essential Preliminaries. There you will find a checklist that will guide you through the necessary steps for getting into the system. For more information, contact Mary Lynne Golden in the Office of the Provost at 417-836-4589.
We look forward to meeting with you at New Faculty Orientation and coming to know you better over the years.
