Pepsi vending machine pricing throughout campus reflects the $1.25 contract price that was effective July 1, 2008.
On May 14, 2004, the University awarded a contract to Pepsi Americas for soft drinks and related products, equipment, supplies, and services as the result of a competitive procurement process. This ten-year contract became effective on July 1, 2004 and will end on June 30, 2014.
Contract terms included an increase in vend pricing from $1.00 to $1.25 beginning in Year five (5) of the contract (July 1, 2008 – June 30, 2009). The $1.25 vend price will remain in effect throughout the remainder of the contract through June 30, 2014.
It should be noted that this was the first beverage increase in seven plus (7+) years. Pepsi's data shows convenience stores to be at $1.39 to $1.49 plus tax for 20 ounce products. The price of $1.25 is still considered to be a strong value when compared to other educational institutions and retail outlets in the local area.
Burch Food Services increased vending machine prices throughout campus during the month of July, 2008 to $1.00 for small size candy, and to $1.25 for large size candy. Prices on other food items remained the same.
The vendor will also continue to rebalance food machine placement throughout campus based on current demand. In order to maximize food freshness and to optimize service, snack machines will remain to be the core offering, and cold food offerings will only centrally be made in Carrington Hall.
In late 2004, the University awarded a contract to Canteen Vending for food vending services, also as a result of a competitive procurement process. This six-year contract became effective on January 1, 2005, and ended on December 31, 2011. The contract was later assumed by Burch Food Services, and then by Jackson Brothers, both Canteen affiliates.
Contract terms allowed for a 2008 increase in vend pricing from $0.85 to $1.00 for small size candy, and $1.00 to $1.25 for large size candy.
A new five-year contract became effective, January 1, 2012 with Jackson Brothers. Renewal options extend through December 31, 2021.
Burch and Jackson Brothers indicate the prices are comparable to area retail pricing.
