General Guidelines for Documentation of Disability

Op5.05-2 General Guidelines for Documentation of Disability

Policy statement

Students who request accommodations through the Disability Resource Center (DRC) should provide documentation that describes their disability and its likely impact on educational experiences. If no disability documentation exists, students are encouraged to meet with a DRC staff member to discuss options for assessing potential academic barriers and how it relates to the student’s disability.

The Association on Higher Education and Disability (AHEAD) has provided professional guidance regarding disability documentation in higher education. Missouri State utilizes AHEAD’s professional guidance as a framework when using documentation to establish disability and support accommodation requests.

Students should be aware that other universities may have different documentation guidelines and that testing agencies (which administer standardized tests such as the GRE and LSAT, etc.) may require different or additional documentation.
