The philosophy department provides many opportunities for you to receive financial assistance to support your studies at Missouri State University. The descriptions below concern scholarship opportunities specific for the philosophy department. You may also qualify for additional University scholarships. The office of student financial aid provides information about University scholarships, grants and loans.

Unless noted, all scholarships require at least the submission of the online general and departmental scholarship application by March 1. If additional application materials are required, the details are included within the scholarship’s description.
   

William R. Brown Endowed Scholarship

Value

Amount varies year to year based on availability of funds, but is generally $500.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater majoring in philosophy with an overall GPA of 3.4.

Robert Anthony Foster Philosophy Scholarship Fund

Value

Amount varies year to year based on availability of funds, but is generally $1,000.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

This scholarship considers financial need. Please submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) preferably by Feb. 15.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship can be renewed, but students must reapply to be considered for renewal. 

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to full-time junior or greater majoring in philosophy with an overall GPA of 2.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.0. Preference given based on financial need.

Philosophy Department Scholarships

Value

Amount varies year to year based on availability of funds, but is generally $250.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Renewal criteria

This scholarship cannot be renewed. 

Selection criteria

Awarded annually to a full-time junior or greater philosophy major with an overall GPA of 3.0 and a departmental GPA of 3.4.

Jack Knight Endowed Scholarship

Value

This fund has not yet become available for students, but once it does become available the award amount will vary year to year based on the availability of funds.

Application

Complete the General and Departmental Scholarship Application by March 1.

Selection criteria

This fund will benefit students in the philosophy department, likely beginning in the 2015 – 2016 academic school year.
