The stated grade level requirement is the student’s college level in fall, 2009. The stated GPA’s are those for college classes and therefore pertain only to sophomores (or higher). The "standard considerations" for freshmen are high school performance, college potential (as assessed by aptitude tests), and leadership qualities.

Vocal music major at the sophomore level or higher; must have 2.5 GPA and exhibit excellence in the area of voice by audition
Graduate (or undergraduate) student, who has been admitted to the Master of Music (or Bachelor of Music Education) programs at Missouri State, with first preference to a graduate student; (if additional funds are available after making a graduate student award, an additional award may be made to an undergraduate student); 3.0 GPA required of graduate students; 2.5 GPA required of undergraduates
Talented keyboard majors (2 piano, 1 organ) registered for 15 hours each semester; automatically renewed so long as student maintains satisfactory progress

Outstanding sophomore piano major selected by the piano faculty
Music major who is at least at sophomore level and studies organ as a secondary area of music performance; must have overall 2.5 GPA; not renewable; adequate keyboard skills, as determined by keyboard faculty
Outstanding band student; automatically renewable as long as student maintains satisfactory academic progress; may be awarded to a freshman with standard considerations
Music major, at least sophomore level, recommended by a music faculty member, with a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA. As selected by audition on the basis of scholarship, musicianship and leadership; automatically renewable as long as student maintains satisfactory academic progress
Music major in string performance with a 3.0 GPA ; (renewable, but must reapply and audition each year); may be awarded to a freshman after audition with the string faculty

Students who demonstrate good piano skills. Preference given to non-music majors who have studied piano previously; renewed automatically so long as the student maintains satisfactory academic progress and continues improvement of piano skills
