Student Opportunities and Services
The faculty in the department of modern and classical languages understand that excellent education extends beyond the classroom. Whether you want to develop your professional skills, study away or become more involved in the department, our faculty support a variety of opportunities for you.
Study Away programs
Spending time at a university in another country is a vital part of any foreign language program. Our department encourages its students to take advantage of Missouri State University’s Study Away programs.
- Visit the Study Away website for more information.
- Or read the student blog about studying abroad.
Career Center
The Missouri State Career Center offers a number of services for students, from assisting with the selection of a major to searching for future careers. If you are interested in further determining your skills and interests, consider completing one of the assessments offered by the Career Center and meeting with a career counselor.
Student organizations
We currently offer the French Conversation Table, which was started by a group of native French speakers who are currently students at Missouri State. They are very enthusiastic about exchanging conversations with English speakers/students on campus. The group meets 7:30 p.m. Mondays at Starbucks in the Plaster Student Union.
Publications
Students, alumni, faculty and staff can keep up with what's new in the department by reading the MCL blog.
Foreign language film nights
The department offers a Spanish film night as well as a multilingual film night to showcase foreign films for Missouri State community.
Languages for fun
Missouri State University International Center and the Department of Modern and Classical Languages present Languages for Fun each semester. These courses will help you understand the basics of each language in fun and creative ways. No textbooks are required.
