Welcome to a tour of the Exercise Science Laboratory in the Department of Health, Physical Education, and Recreation.

The Lab is located in McDonald Arena on the Missouri campus.  The equipment housed in the Lab is used for both Exercise Physiology classes as well as research conducted by both graduate students and faculty.

The equipment list is quite lengthy and includes the following:

  • ELECTROCARDIOGRAPHS
Two Hewlett Packard Page Writer 100 portable EKG.
    Quinton 3000 EKG.
  • MOTION ANALYSIS SYSTEM:
Innovision Systems - MaxReflex hardware and MaxDOS software - 3D motion analysis system.
  • GLUCOSE/LACTATE ANALYZER
Yellow Springs Instruments 2300 STAT PLUS which allows for simultaneous glucose and lactate analysis.
  • GLUCOSE/LACTATE/ALCOHOL/
    CHOLESTEROL/UREA ANALYZER
Analox GL5 which is programmed for the listed chemistries.
  • SPECTOPHOTOMETER
Spectro Master Model 415 (Fisher Scientific).
  • METABOLIC ANALYSIS SYSTEM:
Parvo Medics TrueMax 2400 system which is a complete, integrated metabolic measurement system for maximal oxygen consumption testing. This system is a new addition to the Lab in 1998 and is a state-of-the-art system.
  • TREADMILLS
Quinton Q55 treadmill (capable of 10 mph and 20% grade).
Quinton Q65 treadmill (capable of 15 mph and 25% grade).
Note: both of these treadmills can be controlled with the Quinton 3000 EKG unit.
  • SPIROMETER
    Futuremed Discovery Spirometer.
  • HEART RATE MONITORS
Polar Vantage heart rate monitor (capable of downloading recorded heart rates).
    Polar Favor heart rate monitors.
    Polar Beat heart rate monitors.
  • HYDROSTATIC WEIGHING SYSTEM
    Custom designed hydrostatic weighing tank.
