Missouri State University

Department of Finance and General Business

Why consider a major in the finance and general business (FGB) department?

The FGB department offers a variety of majors and minors, which allows you to find an academic program that is the perfect fit for you.

Our academic programs have strong industry support, including internship opportunities, funding for scholarships and career placement opportunities.

Our programs are designed to help students work toward professional designations prior to graduation to greatly improve their job prospects upon graduation and throughout their careers. Here are some examples:

  • The finance option on the finance major provides a path for students to prepare for the CFA level I exam prior to graduation (and to apply for exam scholarships).
  • The financial planning option satisfies the education requirement of CFP Board’s CFP® certification program. Students completing this degree option are qualified to sit for the Certified Financial Planner™ examination.
  • Missouri’s only risk management/Insurance major has several courses approved for credit toward industry designations.

We offer flexible scheduling options to meet everyone’s needs, including traditional instruction, as well as our new online programs, which include the finance (finance option) and general business majors available entirely online. The general business major is designed to provide maximum flexibility as to choice of major courses and course scheduling.

Personal Finance Dual Credit

In addition to our coursework for enrolled students, we currently offer a dual credit personal finance class through local high schools. Lectures for this course are available through our highly rated lecture series on iTunes U. In this course, you will learn about concepts such as budgeting, insurance, investing and more.

Check out our dual credit finance page if you are interested in more information.
