Missouri State University

Meet the Family Association Staff

Joe Morris

Welcome to the Missouri State Family Association!  I'm Joe, the Director of Student Orientation, Advisement, and Registration (SOAR) at Missouri State.  My primary responsibility is developing and implementing the SOAR program for incoming students and their family members, but I also have the privilege of coordinating the Family Association.  I enjoy having the opportunity to work with you, the parents and family members of our students, to help them become successful and achieve their goals.

I have a long history with Missouri State; as an undergraduate student, graduate student, instructor, and staff member, I’ve experienced just about everything the University has to offer!  As an undergraduate, I earned a bachelor of science degree in Mass Media and was a member of the Honors College.  I was involved in several organizations, including a Greek social fraternity and a Christian campus ministry.  I served as a SOAR leader for three years, which sparked a desire to work in student affairs at a university and assist college students.

While completing a master of arts degree in Communication, I served as a graduate assistant for the Honors College advising undecided honors students.  Once I completed the degree I became the Director of SOAR here, allowing me (perhaps fatefully) to return to the program that I loved.  Since graduate school, I have taught several sections of our freshman orientation course and student leadership course

As you can see, my time here and my training as a SOAR leader, an academic advisor, and SOAR Director has given me extensive knowledge of the University, in policies and procedures as well as personal experiences.   Please feel free to contact me at anytime with questions or comments.  I’d love to hear from you!

Brookli Pollock

Hello!  I'm Brookli, the graduate assistant for the Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration (SOAR) program. In addition to working with SOAR, I also assist the Family Association throughout the year by composing and sending the E-Newsletters and serving as a contact for questions or concerns.

I recently graduated from a liberal arts college in Hastings, Nebraska, receiving a bachelor of arts degree in psychology.  Moving to Springfield was quite a change from the small town that I am use to.  I fell in love with Missouri State the first time I visited in spring 2010.  The community of Springfield and the Missouri State campus are both very welcoming.

Currently, I am pursuing a master of science degree in counseling with an emphasis in secondary school counseling and community agency counseling.  I plan on graduating in May 2013.  In addition to my studies and my work with the Family Association, I help plan the overall SOAR program. During SOAR, I work specifically with the family portion of the program designed for the parents and families of new students.  I hope to assist you in every way possible so your experience with Missouri State is as enjoyable as your students.  Feel free to contact me if I can be of assistance or help point you in the right direction.
