What is Welcome Weekend? Simply put, it is three days of fun events and activities designed to welcome students back to campus and help them build new friendships and relationships. Welcome Weekend is held on the Friday through Sunday before classes begin each fall semester.
The Family Association sponsors events for family members who are bringing their students to campus during this weekend. Please join us at the following events!
Family Welcome and Informational Sessions
Friday, August 16 at 3:00 and 4:00 PM
Plaster Student Union Theater
While your student is busy unpacking their room, we invite you to attend one of our two Welcome and Information sessions. Staff and faculty will share their experiences in helping students transition to college, and Family Association staff will announce opportunities for Downtown Springfield dinner and entertainment discounts.
Student and Family Aloha Brunch and Goodbyes
Saturday, August 17 from 11 AM to 1 PM
Blair-Shannon and Garst Dining Centers
In Hawaii, the term "aloha" is used as both a warm welcome and a fond farewell. This free Hawaiian themed brunch will allow us to provide a warm welcome to our new students and a fond farewell to the families of our students. Faculty and staff at each dining center will greet students and families and answer any remaining questions. Parents and families are encouraged to attend and enjoy a final meal before saying goodbye to their students.
