Residence Hall Options

Blair-Shannon House

Blair-Shannon House is centrally located on campus. This suite-style residence hall houses up to 712 guests. Each suite has three double occupancy bedrooms, a private bath and a living area. Each bedroom includes two beds, desks and chairs, bookshelves, closets with drawer space and overhead storage, and a refrigerator. The living room has a sofa, arm chair, end tables, coffee table, area rug, and a microwave oven.

Blair-Shannon’s first floor includes front desk services, the Grand Lounge, and the Blair-Shannon dining hall. The Grand Lounge has several couches and chairs for meeting or lounging. Blair-Shannon is the central place on campus to eat and the only dining hall open during the summer. This dining hall features a newly renovated, food court-style dining experience.

Freudenberger House

Freudenberger House, affectionately called Freddy, is also centrally located on campus, situated across the street from Blair-Shannon House. This five-story, U-shaped hall accommodates 724 guests. The double occupancy rooms in Freddy are furnished with two bunkable beds, desks and chairs, bookshelves, chest of drawers, a wardrobe, and a refrigerator and microwave. A large bath with individual stalls and showers is located on each floor.

Hammons House

Hammons House is one of the newest residence halls on campus. The eight-story residence hall houses 584 guests in suite-style rooms. Each suite includes one or two double occupancy bedrooms, a private bath, and a kitchenette. Bedrooms include two bunkable beds, desks and chairs, bookshelves, wardrobes, a chest of drawers, and an under-bed storage unit. The kitchenette includes a refrigerator, microwave, sink, cabinets, and a dinette set. All suites are carpeted.

Hammons House’s first floor contains a lounge area, Boomers, and the Etc. convenience store. Hammons House is connected to its twin residence hall, Hutchens House, via the Garst Dining Center. Garst Dining Center is used for new student orientation during the summer, but it may be available through arrangements with Event and Meeting Services. Hammons House accommodations are available for adult-only conference groups.

Kentwood Hall

Kentwood Hall was originally the Kentwood Arms Hotel. This building hosted famous statesmen, entertainers, and celebrities such as Groucho Marx and President Harry S. Truman. Kentwood Hall is located within walking distance of the main campus and also has direct access to campus through the university shuttle system.

This one-time luxury hotel now houses up to 137 guests in furnished 2, 3, and 4 person rooms. The rooms are carpeted and have a private bath. Each room is furnished with bunkable beds, desks and chairs, bookshelves, closets, and drawer storage. A refrigerator and microwave are also provided in each room. A few single rooms are available.

Woods House

Woods House houses 390 guests in double occupancy rooms. Each room includes desks and chairs, bunkable beds, drawer storage, closets, and bookshelves. Rooms also include a refrigerator, microwave and sink. Bathrooms are located on each floor with individual stalls and showers.

Woods House also has a 10th floor commons area. This space can be utilized by groups when special arrangements are made with Event and Meeting Services. Features include an observation deck, sun porch, fitness center, central kitchen, music practice room, and other rooms suited for meetings or activities.

Sunvilla Tower

Sunvilla Tower is one of the tallest buildings in Springfield rising 18 floors above the campus. Standing across the street from Juanita K. Hammons Hall for the Performing Arts, this facility can house 280 guests in carpeted and furnished apartments. The living room includes a sofa, chairs, end tables, a coffee table, and desks. The dining area has a dinette set, and the kitchen is equipped with a dishwasher, refrigerator, stove, oven and microwave. The bedrooms are furnished with bunkable beds, closet space, and drawer storage. Two-bedroom apartments accommodate six people and have two bathrooms. One-bedroom apartments accommodate three people with one bathroom.

Sunvilla Tower has garage parking spaces available and is diagonally across the street from the University’s Park ‘n Ride facility. Sunvilla also has a swimming pool and patio area with a grill as well as a second floor terrace. Sunvilla accommodations are available for adult-only conferences and family events.
