The purpose and mission of the Project CHEERS program is to implement and coordinate a community-wide designated driver program throughout Missouri. Each state university and college is encouraged to form a CHEERS chapter and serve as a distribution point for program development.
This particular project, which is modeled from University of Missouri-Columbia project CHEERS which was established in 1986, was founded in Springfield in the fall of 2002.
The main purpose of CHEERS is for establishments to serve the designated driver (in groups of 2 or more individuals) a non-alcoholic drink free of charge in a CHEERS cup. It is our hope this project will keep our students safe in our community.
