Through its programs of study at the undergraduate and graduate levels, the Department of Biomedical Sciences provides scientific knowledge, research opportunities, academic and career advisement, and community interactions and services that prepare students, health professionals, and citizens for opportunities and challenges of the 21st century.

The preparation for future careers in medicine, dentistry, optometry, and many other health professions is supported by majors and minors in the Biomedical Sciences. A number of student organizations are supported by the Department of Biomedical Sciences: the Missouri State University Student Dietetic Association, Student Society of Cell and Molecular Biology (CMB Club), Pre-Dental Student Organization, the Pre-Optometry Student Organization, and the Missouri State University Premedical Society.
The Department of Biomedical Sciences' online newsletter, Biomedical Times, is published periodically. A draft of the most current newsletter is typically loaded on the Missouri State server and modified periodically during development. Biomedical Times provides information about new programs in the BMS Department, student and alumni news, faculty and student news, and various items of interest to students, parents, and visitors to the Web site.
