Friday, Sept. 11

(all events are tentative and subject to change)

Check–In and Information

4:00pm – 7:00pm
Plaster Student Union, N.E. Lounge (across from the Info Desk)
Pick up your passes for weekend events and have your first Family Weekend photo taken at our Social Media Photo Center.
 

Social Media Photo Booth

Start out the weekend by getting your first picture in front of the Bear Statue. The picture will be printed out for you immediately. #MSUFW15

BearWear @ the Bookstore

7:30am – 5:30pm
Get ready for “BearWear Friday” –a longstanding Missouri State tradition—by heading to the Bookstore for your MSU merchandise! Then, take a picture of you and your family in your BearWear for a chance to be featured on the MSU website!

4:00pm – 7:00pm
Enjoy food from Chick Fil-A, Panda Express, Red Mango, Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, and more, when you experience the campus “hotspot.”
 

Foster Recreation Center Open House

4:00pm – 9:00pm
Get active and enjoy a workout (or a swim) with your student in our newly built, Foster Recreation Center! Families will have the opportunity to use the FRC to workout with their students. A signed waiver of consent is needed to use the facility. Family members can fill out the waiver form at the front desk of the center.

Student Showcase & BBQ
sponsored by the Office of Student Engagement & Student Activities Council

North Mall
Join us for a fun filled night of entertainment and BBQ! Enjoying the talents of our student organizations as they entertain with a wide variety of acts, visiting with other families and getting to know MSU staff are just a few of the highlights of the evening. Tickets Required. First-come, first-serve. Space is limited.

A "Night Under the Stars" at the Baker Observatory

7:30pm - 10:30pm
Baker Observatory, 1766 Old Hillcrest Road Webster County, MOJoin faculty, staff and students from the Department of Physics, Astronomy and Material Sciences for a "Night Under the Stars" at the Baker Observatory, an extended part of the Missouri State campus. Families will have the opportunity to use the telescopes to check out our amazing solar system and enjoy the peace of a country night . The Baker Observatory is located at Old Hillcrest Road, off Route 38, approximately ten miles northwest of Marshfield in Webster County.  Maps will be available at Family Weekend check-in. This event is free. The event will be cancelled in the event of rain.

Rock-n-Bowl

Level 1 Game Center - Plaster Student Union
Join the Student Activities Council for bowling, ping pong and pool in the Level 1 Game Center. Challenge other families to a friendly competition.
All activities are on a first-come, first serve basis.

Join MSU Parent and Family Programs for the Official Family Weekend 2015 kick-off celebration, as you indulge in a delectable buffet breakfast. Please be sure to include your student in your ticket count, as student meal plans will not be accepted.

**Must have a ticket to attend. Tickets will NOT be available at the door.**

BearWear @ the Bookstore

Golf Scramble

Get ready to tee off as you participate in the annual Family Weekend Golf Scramble sponsored by Campus Recreation.  Create your own 2-person team, and sign up for $72.00 (per team including tax).  Your registration will include 18 holes and a golf cart for you and your partner to get around the course. Tickets are required.

Bear Battalion Rappelling Exhibitions

Looking for some adventure? Join the Bear Battalion as they teach you to rappel down the ROTC Rappelling Tower. Take a moment to meet the Cadets and enjoy interesting exhibits.

Boulder Climb

Showcase your climbing skills with the staff of the Rec Center.  Staff will be available to share climbing tips with you.

The Duane G. Meyer Library presents "The Library - Past, Present and Future" Family Event

The Duane G. Meyer Library
The Duane G. Meyer Library family of services invites you to participate in The Library – Past, Present and Future. Learn about valuable resources available to your student from the MSU Libraries in a self-guided tour. Enjoy memories of the past, learn about resources of the present and get a glimpse of the future alongside fun activities for all. A drawing will be held at the end of the day. Activities will include: Paint your Library, games, tours, and technology presentations, plus much more.

Legacy Family Ice Cream Social
hosted by the Missouri State University Alumni Association

Are you a Missouri State alumni and the family member of a current MSU student? You are invited to the Legacy Family Ice Cream Social. Mix and mingle with local alumni, faculty members and Alumni Association staff while enjoying some delicious ice cream. Bring your family and join the fun. (free but advance registration is required)

BearFest Village: Family Edition Extravaganza

11am - 2pm

Make memories and indulge in a day of fun with your entire family during one of MSU’s most exciting tailgate traditions– BearFest Village. Take a picture with Boomer, eat some tailgate food and get in the Bear spirit as you enjoy the excitement of game day! Tailgate food is included in the price of a ticket.

Make a Difference Event - Meals-a-Million Packathon

10:30am - 12:30pm
Be a #CitizenBear and make a difference during Family Weekend.  Meals A Million is an opportunity for you and your student to unite with a group of volunteers to fight hunger locally and worldwide!  You and your family will pack the meals and the meals will be distributed throughout the United States and to developing countries internationally.  Previous distributions have included Springfield, Joplin, Branson, and Carthage, as well as Tanzania, Mexico, Haiti, and El Salvador. MSU v. Chadron State Football Game

2:00pm
Show your Bear pride as you cheer the team on to a game winning season during the first home game of the year! Also, get ready for a whirlwind of surprises and activities for you and your family throughout the game. Go Bears!  Tickets are $5 for adults (13 and older) and $2 for children 12 and under. Students will be seated with you (comp ticket) when your ticket order is filled. You DO NOT need to purchase a ticket for your student. Family Weekend football tickets will go on sale through the Family Weekend Registration site in early June.
 

Dive-in Movie

8:30pm
Get ready for fun in the pool at the Foster Family Aquatic Center while enjoying a dive-in movie (movie announced soon). Remember to pack your bathing suits and come on out for lots of fun. The pool has a lazy river you can float on, underwater bench seating plus much more. (free admission but advance registration is required)
 

 


Sunday, Sept. 13

BearWear @ the Bookstore

Sparkling Sunday Brunch

11am
MSU Dining Centers
Enjoy a sparkling brunch in either of our two main dining centers as you get ready to bid farewell to your student.  Parents eat free with a student. Additional guests are $6.50 each, payable at the door.

Explore Springfield

Get your outdoor supplies at the 300,000 square-foot Bass Pro Shop, experience history first-hand as you go on the “Battle of Springfield Driving Tour,” or experience the “home of the throwed rolls” in the Ozarks. Finish up the weekend by taking some time to explore the Springfield community with your student. Get more information.
