**Please note that Family Weekend is a self-supported event; the registration fee covers events, meals, supplies, materials, and administrative costs.

Some events do require tickets. Space will be limited.


Friday, October 28

Check–In and Information

4:00pm – 7:00pm
Plaster Student Union, N.E. Lounge (across from the Info Desk)
Pick up your passes for weekend events and have your first Family Weekend photo taken at our Social Media Photo Center.  Find out more about check-in and ticket pick-up here!

Social Media Photo Booth

4:00pm - 7:00pm

Start out the weekend by getting your first picture in front of the Bear Statue. The picture will be printed out for you immediately. Use the hashtag #MSUFW16 when you take a photo on Instagram and your photo will be sent to the printer. There will also be volunteers available to take your photo.

BearWear @ the Bookstore

7:30am – 8:00pm
Get ready for “BearWear Friday” –a longstanding Missouri State tradition—by heading to the Bookstore for your MSU merchandise! Then, take a picture of you and your family in your BearWear for a chance to be featured on the MSU website!

Enjoy food from Chick Fil-A, Panda Express, Red Mango, Subway, Papa John’s Pizza, and more, when you experience the campus “hotspot.”

Bear Battalion Rappelling Exhibitions

Looking for some adventure? Join the Bear Battalion as they teach you to rappel down the ROTC Rappelling Tower. Take a moment to meet the Cadets and enjoy interesting exhibits.

Foster Recreation Center Open House

Get active and enjoy a workout (or a swim) with your student in our newly built Foster Recreation Center! Families will have the opportunity to use the FRC to workout with their students. A signed waiver of consent is needed to use the facility. Family members can fill out the waiver form at the front desk of the center.

Haunted Trail

Enjoying the talents of our student organizations as they entertain with a wide variety of acts, visiting with other families and getting to know MSU staff are just a few of the highlights of the evening. Annual Haunted Campus Tour
presented by the Folklore Club

Since 2007 the Folklore Club has been relating the narratives collected from faculty, staff, and students about supernatural experiences on and near campus. Come wind your way around campus, hear the tales, and learn some lesser known campus history along the way!  Limited to 12 people per tour (7pm, 7:20pm, 7:40pm, 8pm, 8:20pm, 8:40pm, 9:00pm)

Women's Volleyball vs. Drake University

Get ready to tee off as you participate in the annual Family Weekend Golf Scramble sponsored by Foster Recreation Center.  Create your own 2-person team, and sign up for $57.00 (including cart and tax), $30.00 for individual (includes cart and tax).  Your registration will include 9 holes and a golf cart for you and your partner to get around the course. Tickets are required.

BearFest Village: Family Edition Extravaganza - Come & Go Event

Join the Traditions Council and Parent & Family Programs in making memories and indulge in a day of fun with your entire family during one of MSU’s most exciting tailgate traditions– BearFest Village. Take a picture with Boomer, eat some tailgate food  and get in the Bear spirit as you enjoy the excitement of game day! Tailgate food is included in the price of a  family tailgate ticket. MSU students are free. More details to come!

MSU Football Game

Show your Bear pride as you cheer the team on as they take on Southern Illinois! Also, get ready for a whirlwind of surprises and activities for you and your family throughout the game. Go Bears!   Football Tickets will be mailed.

Legacy Family Tailgate

Did you graduate from Missouri State? Legacy Families (students with a mother, father, grandmother or grandfather that graduated from Missouri State) and their current MSU student are invited to the Legacy Family Tailgate during BearFest Village. Enjoy some tailgate food and get in the Bear spirit as you enjoy the excitement of game day! Tailgate food is included in the price of a ticket. MSU students are free. 

Missouri State Men's Soccer vs. Evansville

Dive-in Movie - Hotel Transylvania

Get ready for fun in the pool at the Foster Aquatic Center while enjoying a dive-in movie. Remember to pack your bathing suits and come on out for lots of fun. The pool has a lazy river you can float on, underwater bench seating plus much more. (free admission but advance registration is required)

The Missouri State University Campus Ministers Association presents Family Weekend Sunday Worship, a non-denominational time of worship and sharing. All are welcome to attend.

Sparkling Sunday Brunch

Blair- Shannon Dining Center - 8:00am - 12:30pm
Garst Dining Center - 11 am - 2 pm
Enjoy a sparkling brunch in either of our two main dining centers as you get ready to bid farewell to your student.  Parents eat free with a student. Additional guests are $6.50 each, payable at the door.

Explore Springfield

Get your outdoor supplies at the 300,000 square-foot Bass Pro Shop, experience history first-hand as you go on the “Battle of Springfield Driving Tour,” or experience the “home of the throwed rolls” in the Ozarks. Finish up the weekend by taking some time to explore the Springfield community with your student. Get more information.
