Wind Ensemble

The University Wind Ensemble is the premier wind band of the Missouri State University Department of Music. The University Wind Ensemble is composed of the finest wind, brass, and percussion music majors, as well as outstanding non-music majors, selected by audition. The MSU Wind Ensemble is guided by a philosophy seeking to expose its students and audiences to the highest quality repertoire written or transcribed for wind instruments. Repertory represents all styles of music from the Renaissance to world premieres for wind band. The University Wind Ensemble has appeared at regional College Band Directors National Association Conferences and numerous Missouri Music Educators Association Conferences. The Wind Ensemble is active in commissioning new music and promoting the growth of the wind band repertoire. Graduates from the Wind Ensemble hold distinguished teaching positions at the elementary, secondary, and collegiate levels. Former members of the ensemble also hold positions in orchestras around the world, as well as the leading military bands. The University Wind Ensemble typically performs two or three on-campus concerts per semester.

Wind Symphony

The Missouri State University Wind Symphony is comprised of advanced musicians (both music majors and non-music majors) by audition. The Wind Symphony is dedicated to broadening the artistic level and interest of its members while performing a wide array of repertoire including masterworks for band and contemporary wind literature. The Wind Symphony typically performs two or three on-campus concerts per semester.

Concert Band

The Missouri State Concert Band is open to all University students. Concert Band offers a creative and positive music-making environment for students of all majors and academic disciplines within the University. Concert Band creates a comfortable venue for students to enjoy making music as a diversion to their academic schedule while performing the best of the wind band repertoire. The Concert Band performs three concerts during the spring semester only.

No audition required.

Community Band

The University Community Band is a unique organization comprised of members from throughout the community presenting a minimum of four concerts a year in a variety of venues in the greater Springfield area.
