We look forward to having you with us for the fall 2009 semester. The following timeline outlines the information and services you can expect from us in the months to come, as well as some steps that you should take to prepare for your first semester at Missouri State University!
Within a month of your admission:
-
You will receive information regarding our housing policy and residence halls from the Department of Residence Life and Services (commonly referred to as the "Housing Office"). This will include information on the housing application process and will provide instructions that you must follow to ensure that your admission date will be used as your priority date for housing.
-
If you qualify for a scholarship based on the information available to us when you are admitted, you should receive a scholarship offer letter and acceptance form from our director of financial aid. (If you improve your rank, grade point average, and/or tests scores prior to March 1, we will use that information to re-evaluate your scholarship eligibility.)
-
If you have an ACT composite score of 27 or higher and are in either the top 10% of your senior class or have a 3.90 grade point average on a 4.00 scale, you will receive an offer of admission to our Honors College. Invitations will be mailed beginning in late October.
January 2009
-
The registration deadline for students who may wish to take the February 9, 2009 ACT is January 6. The February test is the last from which we can accept scores to determine eligibility for Missouri State University scholarships (except the Presidential, for which the December ACT would be the last accepted score, and the Hutchens/SGA Centennial Leaders, for which the October ACT test would be the last accepted score) or admission to the Honors College. (Please note that you do not need to retake the ACT if you are admitted. We are only providing this information in case you wish to do so.)
- By the end of this month, you will be able to go online and select your residence hall room! The schedule of when you can do so (based on your admission date) is posted on the Residence Life website: reslife.missouristate.edu.
March 2009
-
By the middle of this month, you should receive a brochure entitled "Frequently Asked Questions" for students admitted for the fall 2009 semester. This brochure answers the questions commonly asked by new students.
-
If you are planning to apply for financial aid, we encourage you to complete and submit your Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) by the end of this month. To receive priority consideration for all aid programs, you must submit your FAFSA so that it is received by the processor no later than March 31. We recommend that you apply on the web at www.fafsa.ed.gov. You can apply for aid after March 31; however, there are certain programs for which you will not be considered.
April 2009
-
By mid-April, you and your family will receive an invitation from our Student Orientation, Advisement and Registration (SOAR) Office to attend a two-day SOAR session during June or July. During SOAR, you will learn about the University, meet other incoming students, confer with an advisor and register for classes. Attendance at SOAR is required of all first-time freshmen, and you will have the option of choosing one of the SOAR session dates in June or July that best fits your schedule.
-
The Office of Student Financial Aid will begin sending award letters to students who submitted complete applications for financial aid by the March 31 priority date.
June 2009
-
You should be scheduled to attend a SOAR program either this month or the next. We strongly encourage you to attend the earliest SOAR session for which you are eligible.
-
If you were admitted pending your final transcript from high school and/or from another college or university, be sure to request that your final transcript(s) be sent directly to Missouri State Office of Admissions. (Please refer to the "Transcript Request Form" you received with your admission letter.)
July 2009
-
If you haven't already submitted your medical history form to the Taylor Health and Wellness Center, be sure to do so soon. The medical history form is available online at health.missouristate.edu/history.htm.
-
If you participated in a June or July SOAR session, you should receive a letter by the end of the month informing you of who your advisor will be.
-
If your financial aid award included a student loan, you can meet the entrance interview requirement using an interactive website by going to www.missouristate.edu/financialaid/loans.htm and choosing the Stafford Entrance Counseling option.
August 2009 (A busy month!)
-
The last SOAR sessions are during the week of August 17 and are available to admitted students who have not already registered.
-
The residence halls open on Friday, August 21, at 8:00am.
-
You will receive information about the Freshman Convocation to be held on Sunday, August 23, in JQH Arena. Right after the Convocation is the New Student Festival, during which you can obtain information about organizations, activities, and services on campus. Plan to attend both of these important and exciting events!
