GENERAL FUNCTION

The Food Services Assistant Manager - WP is responsible for prepping and cooking daily meals and preparing food items for catering purposes. The Assistant Manager supervises student employees and other food service employees in the Manager’s absence, assists in menu planning, receives and stocks food supplies, assists in catering special events on campus, inventories supplies, daily prepares the kitchen for the following business day, and participates in various activities as necessary.

MINIMUM ACCEPTABLE QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience: A high school diploma or the equivalent is required. At least three years of food service experience is preferred. Formal culinary training can be considered in addition to or as a substitution for experience.  An equivalent combination of years of experience and education may be considered for substitution of educational requirements.

Skills: Requires baking and cooking skills. The ability to operate a cash register, follow required health and safety standards, organize and cater for miscellaneous campus events, maintain a clean working environment, supervise food service employees, and maintain a customer friendly dining room is also required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required.

Effort: This position lifts, carries, moves institutional food supplies and equipment weighing up to twenty-five pounds, and moves supplies and equipment up to fifty pounds with assistance on a regular basis.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

1. Prepares well-balanced, nutritious meals for the campus community; follows recipes needed for all daily food menus; and prepares meals used in catering events.

2. Conducts the weekly inventory and is responsible to store food orders when received.

3. Prepares baked goods for consumption in dining services and caterings.

4. Prepares the kitchen daily for the following day’s work through cleaning and storing equipment properly.

5. Ensures the prompt and proper storage of food items, the cleanliness of the entire facility, and maintains food services operations in full compliance with public health codes.

6. Assists with the daily, weekly, and monthly cleaning of floors, ovens, the grill, hood screens, freezers, etc.

7. Oversees the accuracy of the operation of the cash register, debit/credit card machine, and daily deposits.

8. Supervises student employees by preparing work schedules, assigning their work, providing instructions, and checking performances. Also supervises other food service employees in Manager’s absence and directs their work.

9. Resolves and properly documents any issues or incidents that might occur within dining facilities.

10. Produces special meals and other activities.

11. Facilitates a work environment that encourages knowledge of, respect for, and development of skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds.

12. Remains competent and current through self-directed professional reading, developing professional contacts with colleagues, attending professional development courses, and attending training and/or courses as directed by the Food Services Manager.

13. Ensures that miscellaneous assignments related to Food Services are completed in the best interests of the campus by accepting and accomplishing tasks which are delegated by the Food Services Manager.

SUPERVISION

The Food Services Assistant Manager - WP is supervised by the Food Services Manager - WP and directly supervises student employees and employees of the Putnam Food Services.
