You can re-purpose content from your website, blog, or other social media presences by utilizing third-party apps in Facebook. For more information on using apps in Facebook, please visit the Facebook Help Center.
Below are a few examples of third-party apps and how they can integrate with your content on other sites. Please follow the instructions provided with these third-party apps to set them up properly:
- RSS Graffiti - allows you to automatically import RSS feeds from your blog or website onto your Facebook page
- Flickr for Pages - allows you to bring your Flickr photos onto your Facebook page
- Twitter - allows your tweets to automatically pull onto your Facebook page
For University Units that do not have a broad mass audience but wish to dedicate resources to creating a smaller Facebook community presence, it is recommended that you create a Facebook group. Groups also have privacy settings so it can be set to global or restricted. The only downside to a group is that it requires interaction between users in order to stay current, and they rely around a community of users rather than a single administrator to maintain their relevance.
Any Facebook user can create an event and administer it themselves, whether that is through a page or group.
To create an event as a page administrator you should click on the "Event, Milestone +" link at the top of your status update box, then select Event. Users can RSVP to events, and the events feature is a good way to keep people aware of upcoming activities, lectures, games and so on.
