When and where will the Ursa Experience take place?
The Ursa Experience will take place Monday, August 13th to Wednesday, August 15th. Most of the program will occur off-campus at Windermere Conference Center in Roach, MO. This retreat site is approximately 75 miles northeast of Springfield and Missouri State University. Lodging accommodations include air-conditioned, bunk-bed style cabins. Cabin rooms are carpeted and have indoor plumbing, including sinks, toilets and individual shower stalls. Residential students will stay on campus, Monday, August 13th and commuter students will stay at their personal residence. We will leave for Windermere Conference Center on Tuesday, August 14th. The program's first day kicks-off at 12pm with check-in on August 13th and ends at approximately 9pm. We leave for Windermere on August 14th at 8am from Missouri State. We will return to campus the afternoon of August 15th.
If I’m living on campus, when do I move into the residence halls?
Students living on campus for the fall semester should arrive at their assigned residence hall starting at 8 a.m. on Monday, August 13th to check in and receive their room key. Students are free to move their belongings into their room until check-in for the Ursa Experience program begins (see below). You will not need to bring anything to check-in. We will be on campus for the whole day, August 13th leaving for Windermere on August 14th.
When is check in for the Ursa Experience?
Check-in for the Ursa Experience will take place on the 2nd floor of the Plaster Student Union (near the PSU Theatre) beginning at 12 noon on Monday, August 13th. Students MUST check in at this time and location to participate in the Ursa Experience.
What if I’m living off campus my first year at Missouri State?
Commuter students will stay at their personal residence the night of Monday, August 13th, returning to campus by 8am on Tuesday, August 14th. Students who drive to campus can park their cars during the Ursa Experience if they have purchased a commuter parking permit. We recommend purchasing a permit at SOAR or on the Parking Administration website.
We recommend that Ursa Experience participants park in Lot 22, the yellow commuter lot closest to the Plaster Student Union, when they arrive to check in for the Ursa Experience.
Who is eligible to attend the Ursa Experience?
Participation in the Ursa Experience is open to all new first-year and transfer students admitted to the fall semester directly following Ursa.
Can I bring family or friends to the Ursa Experience?
Family members and/or friends can see you off at the Ursa Experience Family Welcome (Monday, August 13th at 1 p.m. in Plaster Student Union Theatre), but they cannot accompany you for the rest of the program.
Where will I be sleeping?
On Monday, August 13th, you will sleep in your residence hall room or if a commuter student, at your personal residence. On Tuesday, August 14th, participants will head to Windermere Conference Center in Roach, MO. Transportation to Windermere is provided by the Ursa Program. Students will stay with their fellow students in air-conditioned, bunk-bed style cabin rooms. Cabin rooms are carpeted and have indoor plumbing, including sinks, toilets and individual shower stalls.
What should I wear? What should I pack?
Ozarks weather in August is typically hot and humid. Please pack clothing that is comfortable and will keep you cool. Consider packing clothing that you are comfortable getting sweaty, wet, and dirty during various activities.

What sort of food is provided?
Meals and snacks are provided by Windermere Conference Center at the off-campus retreat center and by Missouri State Dining Services during on-campus activities. Should you have special dietary restrictions or food allergies, please note these during the registration process so that we may provide reasonable accommodations.
Assistance and accommodation
Is financial assistance available?
Yes! Thanks to the generosity of the Missouri State community, a limited number of spaces are available to students who wish to attend the Ursa Experience but require financial assistance.
