Parking Violations and Fines

What is a parking violation?

The vehicle owner is responsible for all violations of the vehicle, regardless of who is operating the vehicle at the time of the violation. Unless, the non-owner (second party) accepts the responsibility for the violation. We assign violations retroactively for twelve (12) months to the person identified as responsible.

Violations include:

  • Failure to Register a Vehicle
  • Failure to Display a Parking Permit
  • Altered or Stolen Permit
  • Permit Does Not Apply to Lot
  • No Parking Zone
  • Parked Over The Line
  • Accessible Permit Not Present
  • Parking Time Expired
  • Obstructing Traffic
  • Reserved Space

Violation fines

Violation fine fees schedule may be found, on page 23, of the Detailed Tuition and Fees page.

Fines for several tickets

We count tickets based on the date you received the ticket. The ticket does not count if the appeal administrator grants an appeal.

Paying fines

If you are affiliated with the University you may pay fines at the bursar’s office or mail them to 901 S. National Avenue, Springfield, MO 65897. Citation payments may also be made online through your My Missouri State account.

If you are non-affiliated you may pay at the bursar’s office or Transit Operations Center (TOC), 700 E. Elm. Citation payments may also be made online through the Parking Portal.

Late payment

Fines go to accounts receivable accounts if not paid or appealed within five (5) days. No late fees apply; accounts receivable accounts add a service fee of one percent per month for unpaid charges.
