2015-2016 Sugar Bears Dance Team Auditions
Requirements for 2015-2016 Sugar Bears Auditions:
Final tryout clinic will be held in the East Court of Hammons Student Center. Please enter through the east doors (marked Volleyball - facing JQH Arena). The deadline to submit required paperwork was Sunday, April 12th. Audition applicants who did not attend the clinic on Sunday, April 12, must attend the clinic on Friday, April 17th, to be eligible for auditions.
Friday, April 17, 2015
Clinic: 7:00pm - 9:00pm
The clinic will include a group stretch, pom, hip hop and jazz choreography and a short information session at the end. The tryout clinics are closed to the public. Our goal is to prepare dancers as much as possible for the audition.
Suggested Attire for Tryout Clinics: (there is no need to purchase anything new for the clinic)
Sports bra or fitted dance top
Jazz shoes or half shoes for jazz and pom - Tennis shoes for hip hop
During semi-finals and finals, dancers will be evaluated on turns, leaps, flexibility, showmanship, musicality, jazz choreography, pom choreography, hip hop choreography, hip hop tricks, overall technique and an interview with the judges. Be prepared for a possible fitness test, as well. Dancers should be ready for anything on both days.
Saturday, April 18, 2015 (first day of evaluations)
8:30am: check-in and photo shoot
*Bring a nude or white strapless or halter bra to wear with a Sugar Bears uniform top for the photo shoot. Be stretched and ready to go.
9:00am: learn jazz choreography
-jazz choreography evaluation
-hip hop review
-hip hop evaluation
Finalists will be posted on Facebook (Missouri State Sugar Bears Dance Team) once the scores have been tallied.
Sunday, April 19, 2015 (finals)
8:30am: check-in (be stretched and ready to go)
-perform jazz choreography
-learn pom choreography
-individual skills & interview (bring your best 3 skills)
-additional evaluation as necessary
The 2015-2016 Sugar Bears Dance Team will be announced online and/or via Twitter by 6pm on Tuesday, April 21, 2015.
Tryout attire for both days (wear the same outfit both days):
Fitted, sleeveless, cropped dance top or sports bra in any color. Please choose a color and style that is comfortable and flattering, and avoid prints.
Fitted dance shorts in any coordinating color (no tights)
Black sweat pants may be worn over your dance shorts while learning the hip hop choreography and the hip hop evaluation.
Jazz shoes (or Pirouette style shoes) for jazz and pom/fight song evaluation (tan is recommended)
Tennis shoes or hip hop shoes for hip hop tricks and hip hop choreography evaluation
Hair & Make-up: Arrive with performance make-up and your hair down and styled. You will get your picture taken first thing Saturday morning. Bring hair supplies to quickly put your hair up in a ponytail for the turning and hip hop trick evaluation portion of tryouts.
It is recommended that you also bring knee pads, clothing layers for when you are waiting during evaluation, healtny snacks, water bottles, healthy beverages, etc... duing tryout weekend.
