Type of Alerts

Missouri State Alert is used in the following situations:

  • Immediate threats/violent situations on campus
  • Security alerts
  • University closings
  • Severe weather alerts
  • Emergency situations of an extreme nature
  • Periodic testing

The system is not used for advertisements, marketing messages, or to communicate events.

Other notification mechanisms

The university may also warn the campus community through other methods:

  • Messages on the Missouri State and West Plains home pages
  • Blue-light safety phones
  • Two-way radios
  • Vehicle public address speakers

Who sends the alerts?

Springfield campus alerts may be authorized by the following individuals:

  • President
  • Vice president for administration and finance
  • Associate vice president for administration and finance
  • Director, department of university safety

West Plains alerts

West Plains campus alerts may be authorized by the following individuals:

  • Chancellor
  • Dean of student services
  • Director of strategic communication
  • Coordinator of student life and development
  • Acting dean of the college
