Missouri State University's Department of Safety and Transportation and the Springfield Police Department Substation are conducting an investigation of multiple incidents of thefts from residence hall rooms. The primary targeted locations have been the 6th and 8th floors of Hammons House. The two suspects that have been seen have been entering unlocked rooms and taking books and other items of value. At least five incidents have been reported so far this week. Suspect #1 is described as a male, black/dark complexion, 6'1"-6'2" tall, thin, clean shaven with baggy clothes, and wearing a stocking cap. Suspect #2 is described as male, black/dark complexion, 5'7"-5'8" tall, thin, wearing a dark coat with a red and white stocking cap.
Anyone seeing or having information on these incidents, or having been the victim of a theft that they have not reported, is requested to contact the Springfield Police Department Substation 417-836-5327, MSU Safety and Transportation 417-836-5509, or 911.
- Do not attempt to confront suspicious persons. Contact Safety and Transportation and Springfield Police at 417-836-5509 or 911.
- Do not leave your rooms unlocked. If you leave your room for even a moment, or if you are asleep, make sure your door is locked.
- Anytime you see suspicious people in the residence halls, call the Department of Safety and Transportation and make a report.
- If you have items stolen, report the theft immediately to Safety and Transportation and Springfield Police at 417-836-5509 or 911.
